Pecan Baklava Hand Pies
Baklava is a traditional Mediterranean dessert. It typically consists of layered phyllo dough, pistachios, cinnamon and walnuts doused in an orange blossom syrup. Here, we’ve switched the walnuts and cinnamon for Goodson Pecan Cinnamon Pecans and the phyllo dough for a wonton wrapper to make an easy hand-held party dessert. For the orange blossom syrup we’ve made a honey-vanilla syrup, however, if you’d like to keep with tradition swap the vanilla for orange blossom water.
Ingredients
Wonton wrappers
1 egg
1 Tablespoon water
2 Tablespoons butter
For the Vanilla-Honey Syrup
2 cups water
½ cup sugar
½ cup honey
1 ½ teaspoon vanilla
For the Nut Mixture
1 Small (3.75 oz) Goodson Pecans Cinnamon Pecans
¼ cup pistachios
Directions
Preheat oven to 400℉.
Prepare the honey syrup by placing a small saucepan with the water, sugar and honey on medium-high heat.
Stir continuously until the sugar and honey have dissolved completely. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Let cool.
For the nut mixture, place cinnamon pecans and pistachios in a food processor or blender and blend until well mixed.
Prepare egg wash by whisking together 1 egg and 1 Tablespoon water.
To assemble, take one wonton wrapper and place 1 teaspoon of the nut mixture in the middle. Fold in half, to make a triangle and put egg wash on the edges. Set aside. Repeat until the nut mixture has all been used.
Place prepared wonton hand pies in an iron skillet with 2 Tablespoons butter. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve immediately with vanilla-honey syrup.
